Rhinoplasty

What's involved with a Rhinoplasty?

A disproportionate nose can be quite distressing. It can distract others from many of your other great qualities. Sometimes it can be large dorsal hump, a wide nose, a bulbous nasal tip, a long witch-like tip, or a combination of these issues and others, that can be bothersome. A rhinoplasty can be done to address each of the specific issues with the nose to help improve its appearance and restore your confidence. There is an art and subtlety to rhinoplasty surgery that needs to respect the important structural supports and create a refined but not overdone appearance. The procedure is done under a general anesthetic with the incisions placed inside the nostrils and along the bottom of the nose in between the nostrils (columella) to keep them well-concealed.

Dr. Sharma will sit down with you to discuss your goals and the specific elements of the nose that can be fixed, and review the procedure along with the risks and benefits with you in detail. Most patients are interested in a refined but natural appearance to their nose and we strive to get you the look that you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Am I a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for these procedures are men or women who:

    • are self-conscious about the appearance of the nose
    • do not have significant breathing problems through their nose
    • want a natural and more refined look
    • have realistic expectations
    • have few other medical problems and who are absolute non-smokers
  • What happens on the day of surgery?

Surgery takes place in the operating room with you asleep with a general anesthetic, and can take around 2-3 hours. Markings are first made with you upright to plan out the approach and the locations of the incisions. The stitches inside the nostril will dissolve on their own, and the few external stitches will stay in place for about 1 week and all post-operative instructions and prescriptions will be given to you before going home. You will be able to go home the same day of surgery with a responsible adult.

  • What happens after surgery?

Recovery is a gradual process. You are encouraged to take it easy without strenuous physical activity. The first 3-4 days you may need some of the prescribed pain medications, and there will be some swelling and bruising of the face. A splint will be kept on the nose for one week. You will be able to shower the next day and apply a light layer of polysporin ointment to the incisions. Generally it is a good idea to take 1-2 weeks off work, depending on what type of work you do. At 3-4 weeks from surgery you will typically feel fully recovered with most of the bruising and swelling resolved. You will have to avoid heavy lifting and vigorous exercise up until about 4 weeks from surgery. The final results can take up to 3-6 months to ultimately see.

are Saying

I had breast reduction surgery in March 2021 with Dr. Sharma, and I couldn't be happier with my results. From my first appointment with Dr. Sharma I immediately felt at ease and confident I had chosen the best surgeon. He really listened to my concerns and took the time to explain my options to me clearly. I would highly recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Sharma was great from beginning to end. He explains everything, he takes his time with you to ensure all questions and concerns are addressed before and after the procedure. Dr. Sharma is extremely knowledgeable and treats his patients with the utmost respect. Highly recommend Dr. Sharma!
Dr. Sharma has given me my life back and my body back after two back to back pregnancies! My scars from the abdominal + oblique liposuction are completely minimal. I had absolutely zero bruising from the surgery because of Dr. Sharma’s perfectionism. After three days, I was able to move around with ease. It has been exactly 3 months since my procedure, and all of the swelling has completely disappeared, just as Dr.Sharma said it would. Trust the process and listen carefully to his instructions because he is a master of his craft. Thank you Dr. Sharma for being patient with me and giving me a fresh start at life. Forever grateful!
